How can I dispute a deputy?
Disputes can arise about who the deputy should be, whether they are acting in a person’s best interests or whether a deputy should be appointed at all.
Our experienced lawyers are available to offer specialist advice. We are experienced in helping to resolve disputes between a deputy and other family members in relation to money, property, care or medical treatment.
When can disputes arise?
It may be that you are of the view that the person appointed or registered is not acting in the best interests of the individual that they are making decisions for. Or, it could be the case that you do not think that the person is a suitable candidate for this responsibility and you want to object to the application or registration.

You may wish to dispute a Power of Attorney if you consider the power has been granted to the wrong person or the individual did not have the necessary capacity to make the power of attorney. You may also have concerns that an attorney’s actions are not in the best interests of the individual.
Alternatively you may be the attorney that is facing the challenge in respect of your actions.
If a person lacks the mental capacity to understand and execute a Lasting Power of Attorney and has not signed any previous power of attorney, or if an existing power of attorney they have in place, is no longer valid it may be necessary for a Deputy to be appointed.
