What does it mean to 'remortgage'?

Remortgaging is essentially moving your current mortgage from one lender to another.  Goughs remortgage solicitors are here to help whether you’re hoping to get a better deal or borrow more money, perhaps for those exciting refurbishments, or to simply reduce your monthly costs.

Popular questions
about remortgaging

In some circumstances, for example, borrowing more money from your existing lender on your current arrangement, you may not need a mortgaging solicitor.

You will although need to instruct a conveyancing solicitor when adding or removing someone from your mortgage.

As all situations are unique we do recommend giving us a call to discuss your options.

The process of remortgaging is generally much quicker than buying or selling property, but it can still take a couple of months. To save time during the process, you can stay with the same lender, however many of your decisions to remortgage may be related to moving away from your current provider. It is generally quicker if you are remortgaging with the same lender. Therefore if you are looking to remortgage, ensure you give yourself at least two months before your current arrangement expires.

The legal fees involved in remortgaging are likely to be less than when you originally applied for a mortgage. Quotes you get will vary, but be sure you are instructing a firm with the credentials to support you and your individual requirements.

At Goughs we quote on a bespoke basis, so additional costs don’t sneak in further down the line.

We will also offer you a dedicated lawyer so you have a point of contract throughout your transaction. Our knowledge of Wiltshire and the surrounding areas is second to none, ensuring your transaction is completed as quickly as possible.
