The Role

We’re looking for an experienced Litigator to join the Contentious Private Client team to service a caseload that covers all aspects of contentious private client litigation.

Previous experience of contentious private client litigation is preferred but not essential, but you will need to have a strong litigious background even if that’s been in civil or commercial matters. Full training and upskilling within the practice area will be given if required.

The role will give you plenty of opportunities to grow and develop the caseload. You will be encouraged and given the independence to build relationships with other departments, external referrers, and Counsel.

The Salary:

Newly qualified lawyers can expect to earn from £42,000.

Those with 5-10 years’ experience can expect to earn between £50,000 and £75,000

For those with more than 10 years’ experience and looking for a very senior level role, you can expect to earn £80,000+.

The Team

The Contentious Private Client team currently has their base at our Chippenham office, which is where you will ideally be based.

The Chippenham office itself is home to a further 20 employees based across our Family, Private Client, Residential Property and Marketing departments.

Chippenham is easily accessible from the main road routes that run through the county. The office is also easily accessible by train, with the journey from Bristol taking around 20 minutes and Bath 10 minutes. The station is a five-minute walk from the office.


The Department

The team forms part of the wider Private Client department which currently comprises 16 lawyers and 11 legal assistants across six of our offices. We are thrilled that the department has been listed in The Legal 500 guide for 2024 for the third year running!

The department works in a cohesive environment, but individuals have the autonomy to run and develop their caseload and build relationships with clients and others. Many lawyers within the department are STEP members but everyone shares their expertise, knowledge and experience to support one another.
