What first interested me was the way the law is constantly evolving. Advice that is correct one day can change following new case law or legislation. I was drawn to a career where ongoing learning and adaptation are essential, as it means the work is never routine and always continues to develop.
As I am at an early stage of my training, my client contact is still limited. However, I believe it is vital to recognise that every client has different goals and priorities. Taking the time to understand their perspective and aspirations is, in my view, critical to providing advice and support that meets their needs.
Outside of work, I enjoy playing tennis, darts and pool. I also like spending time outdoors walking my two dogs.
My two greatest achievements are coming first in the UK National Negotiation Competition which lead to our University representing Wales in the International Negotiation Competition, and achieving my Masters in Law, both of which I am very proud of.
When I was applying for training contracts, I was looking for a firm where I could grow into the role of a solicitor. What struck me about Goughs, even on my very first day, was how approachable everyone was. People were open with their time and knowledge, no matter their position. It was clear from the outset that this was a place where I could learn and be supported, which made it feel right for the start of my professional career.
My first impression is that Goughs care about the personal and professional development of its people. From the beginning, I noticed how open everyone is to questions and how much they encourage two-way communication. This kind of positive environment makes it easier to build a broad understanding of different areas of law.
