As part of the government’s latest attempts to control the COVID-19 pandemic, we are encouraged to stay alert, control the virus and save lives! We have been encouraged to exercise and can drive to destinations for that purpose or to buy groceries or travel to work, if you can’t work from home.
With the warmer weather upon us, this means many people prefer to be outside embracing the change of seasons. With change comes hidden risks and here’s a couple of pointers to keep you safe!
Top Tips to Staying Safe This Summer
People are unaware of the hidden dangers when the sun is shining. Particularly at this time there are far more walkers and cyclists around due to people taking advantage of their time out of the house to exercise. Some of these people will have become a little complacent about the lack of traffic and therefore may be less aware of their surroundings.
How clean is your car? If your windscreen or your mirrors are dirty this can decrease your visibility when the sun is shining, obscuring your view of pedestrians and cyclists. Be mindful of this the next time you get into your car and give your windscreen a good wipe over before getting behind the wheel.
The cleanliness of your car is not the only cause of concern at this time of year when driving, beware of the glare caused by the sun’s rays. Slow down to see check for pedestrians and cyclists at junctions or for vehicles edging out of a junction between parked cars. We meet lots of clients at this time of year who have been injured as a result of sun glare and drivers having poor visibility.
Clearly we need to remain alert at any time of the year when driving so as to avoid accidents. So please do you best to slow down and be aware of your surroundings. Enjoy the good weather, stay safe and be alert!
