You will assist a senior solicitor on development land transactions from start to finish. When instructed to acquire a site with planning permission for example, you will assist with the site acquisition in all aspects from taking instructions, walking the site, advising the client, agreeing the transaction documents, title due diligence, funding and legal completion.
You will then have the opportunity to work on any affordable housing disposal, infrastructure agreements and general site set up. You’ll also be there to assist and supervise the Plot Sales Conveyancers at times on any technical matters.
You will have a diverse caseload and will be the assistant lawyer working on Option Agreements, Promotion Agreements, Strategic Land assembly, Conditional Sale Agreements, unconditional sales and purchases, Planning Agreements, Affordable Housing disposals, development finance, Infrastructure Agreements and more.
We very much work as a team and Andrew Given, the Head of Team, and the other specialists, will always be on hand to support, assist and mentor but equally you will be trusted to be confident, decisive and independent.
The team works within a collaborative and engaging environment and is keen to ensure a healthy work life balance whilst still fostering an atmosphere of ambition and excellence. The team is now handling sites generating 250 plus plot sales per year and this is expanding year on year.

I really like the people and culture at Goughs. From the very first interview I could see how happy people were to work for Goughs. The welcoming environment and the impressive knowledge within the residential department makes me incredibly excited to be part of the firm.
“Goughs are a forward thinking law firm, with traditional values but a modern approach. They encourage autonomy whilst also providing a support network that allows growth and progression.”
Goughs is such a friendly, progressive firm with a good local reputation. I enjoyed working as a solicitor for Goughs before so it was reassuring to know that the opportunity to come back to my role in the Private Client department would be so welcomed.
I really enjoy working at Goughs because I have a great work-life balance and have been able to really grow my confidence when it comes to more complex cases. Crucially, I have learnt to understand my value through the experience and expertise I offer.
