Goughs Solicitors acted for the first secondary school in Wiltshire to become an academy. Since then we have gone on to act for a number of secondary and primary schools in their conversion to academy status.
We have also acted for one of the first Special schools in the country in their bid to become an academy.

Making the initial application to the Department for Education

- Detailed advice, pro forma letters and guidance on the transfer of staff as appropriate
- Dealing with the Local Education Authority if required
The governance and incorporation of the Academy Trust

- The Memorandum and Articles of Association
- Incorporation of the Company Limited by Guarantee
Dealing with the land occupied by the school
- Whether by lease, direction from the Secretary of State or supplemental agreement
- Preparing a report on title for the Department for Education
Preparation and completion of a tripartite Commercial Transfer Agreement for the benefit of the Academy Trust
- Negotiating the terms of the Agreement with the Local Education Authority
The preparation and completion of a Funding Agreement
Completing a Members Agreement, if required, for faith schools
