HMRC have recently announced that they are intending to target doctors and dentists, using information obtained from sources such as Health Trusts and private hospitals. This follows a recent 'disclosure window' giving medical professionals the chance to declare previously undisclosed income, which will be dealt with on a concessionary basis involving lower than normal penalties. The deadline for notifying HMRC of an intention to make a disclosure (31 March) has now passed, and the disclosure forms must be submitted to HMRC by 30 June.
The HMRC Microsite for medical professionals has further information on the recent concession and the action HMRC will subsequently be taking.
HMRC will also continue to target employers who do not adhere to minimum wage regulations, and are currently focusing on employers which use migrant labour and pay workers less than the minimum wage in order to undercut their competitors. Click here for further information on this inititative.
